In a counteroffensive conducted on Sunday evening by the Burkinabe Armed Forces against approximately 3,000 « terrorists » who attacked the military camp in Djibo, Soum province, Burkina Faso, at least 400 individuals were neutralized, according to reliable sources.
As reported by the Radiodiffusion Television du Burkina (RTB), a column consisting of nearly 3,000 « terrorists » launched massive attacks on the town of Djibo, particularly targeting the military camp.
The provisional toll mentioned by the public television, citing the army, states that at least 400 terrorists were neutralized in response to this attack.
The Burkina Information Agency highlighted the fierce resistance of the combat forces against the enemy for several hours. It noted that the coordinated action of ground troops and aerial assets inflicted a severe defeat on the criminals. Local media emphasized that the toll on the « terrorists » side could worsen, as the number of attackers killed during their escape through the bush and tracks was still being compiled.
According to local sources, several hundred assailants arrived in the town of Djibo in the afternoon of Sunday, November 26, 2023, firing in some neighborhoods and at the army camp. Aerial assets detected two significant terrorist groups moving rapidly in the Central-North area in the opposite direction. These groups then converged on Djibo, attacking the city from the North entrance.
Combat forces reported clashes with about 800 terrorists coming from Nassoumbou, to whom the 14th Inter-Arms Regiment resisted using artillery. Another group of about 500 fighters from Tongomael joined the conflict, followed by a group from the South of Djibo consisting of about a thousand men with several pickups and an armored vehicle.
Despite enemy resistance, several fighter planes and attack helicopters were quickly deployed to Djibo. In addition to the victory in Djibo, the combat forces achieved several successes on different fronts during the week. Ambushes set in the Bogande regions routed several terrorist groups. Surviving terrorists retreated towards the neighboring Niger.
Furthermore, aerial and ground operations carried out early in the week in the Koulpelogo province neutralized around sixty terrorists affiliated with the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM), including about ten significant leaders such as Nourdine, Diao Djibo, Bandé Issa Hassane, Abou Hourera, Zoulhaidaini, Abdoul Galiki, and Diao Boukari alias Abdoul Djalil, a terrorist cadre from the Niangdin base. Abou Hourera, in particular, had led several attacks against VDP positions and village evacuation operations in different municipalities.
